Have an question about our educational programs? Below are the most common questions we receive by telephone or by email and our answers.

Is there a class room option?
No, home study allows you to start any day you want and not have to wait for a scheduled class.

Is there help available if I need it?
Yes, although the courses are designed to be self study, if you require additional help please call our office at 772-0405 to speak with either Rhonda or Janet.

Can I finish the course faster then time allowed?
Yes, it is all dependant on how much time you put into the course

What happens if I need more time?
On a case by case basis extensions are granted, there is a fee for this extension, you can see the current fee on the fee schedule link

Can I pick up my exam marks?
No, the marks are mailed out to you

Is the online version the same as the book version?
Yes, both versions are provided for the same fee to allow you to choose the option that best suits your needs.

Where do I write the exam?
If you are located in Winnipeg you will write the exam in the MREA offices. If you are located out of town, we do have other exam centers available.

What happens if I fail the exam?
The enrollment fee includes your initial exam, however, if you need to rewrite the exam. There is a fee for this - see our fee guide. If you fail the rewrite examination you must re-enroll into the course, the fee for this is listed in the fee guide.

If the course is online, can I write the exam online as well?
No, the exams must be supervised with an approved invigilator - see Exam Center locations.

Can I get a real estate license if I am not a Canadian citizen?

Can I be a real estate agent and have another job?
Answer: If you plan to work in the city of Winnipeg please be advised that if you intend to be a member of The Winnipeg REALTORS® Association you cannot be a member and also be employed in another job.

If you are going to be a real estate agent outside of Winnipeg through the Brandon Real Estate Board, the Portage La Prairie Real Estate Board or as a direct rural member of the Manitoba Real Estate Association, then yes you may have another source of income.

Once I have completed the Phase 1, 2, and 3 program and I am ready to apply for my license what fees can I expect to pay?
To begin, there are some up front costs associated with becoming a real estate salesperson. The Manitoba Securities Commission has a licensing fee of $125.00. If you are employed by a broker who is a member of a real estate board or association, there are additional fees: board or association dues, a one-time initiation fee for the MREA REALTOR® Security Program, plus levies for the MREA Reimbursement Fund and the REIAOC Errors and Omissions Insurance Program (these range from approximately $1600 to $2600).

Also keep in mind that there are ongoing business expenses which must be met - transportation, clothing, cellular phone, and desk fees, to name a few. You also must complete two Articling Program courses within two years of being licensed, see theCourse Fee guide for their cost.
